Making Arma 2 Work for You!

Alright, since I've been inactive due to Arma2 burning a hole in my computer I've been working to make Arma2 work on a bad computer. I noticed a large drop in activity because of this and people seem to have computers just on the edge of being good for Arma2 now.

So I want this post to be set up to help everyone improve Arma2 performance enough to participate. Please everyone post up what you have noticed and experienced, specially those like me who are trying to make low specs work for the game.

Okay First off my SPECS of the computer that thinks it can!

Computer:
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional
OS Service Pack Service Pack 3
DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)
Computer Name DND-MACHINE (Wolf's Main)
User Name Xenos

Motherboard:
CPU Type DualCore AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2000 MHz (10 x 200) 3800+
Motherboard Name Epox EP-9NPAJ / 9NPA+ / 9NPA+ Ultra (3 PCI, 3 PCI-E x1, 1 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN)
Motherboard Chipset nVIDIA nForce4, AMD Hammer
System Memory 2048 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
BIOS Type Award (04/18/06)
Communication Port Communications Port (COM1)
Communication Port Communications Port (COM2)
Communication Port Printer Port (LPT1)

Display:
Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS (256 MB)
Monitor Gateway VX920 [19" CRT] (007002943)

Multimedia:
Audio Adapter Creative SB Live! Value (CT4780) Sound Card

Storage:
IDE Controller NVIDIA nForce4 Serial ATA Controller
IDE Controller NVIDIA nForce4 Serial ATA Controller
IDE Controller Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
SCSI/RAID Controller AES4IVH1 IDE Controller
Disk Drive ST31000528AS (931 GB, IDE)
Disk Drive Seagate FreeAgentDesktop USB Device (232 GB, USB)
Disk Drive SAMSUNG HD160JJ (160 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA-II)
Optical Drive PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D (DVD+R9:8x, DVD-R9:8x, DVD+RW:16x/8x, DVD-RW:16x/6x, DVD-RAM:5x, DVD-ROM:16x, CD:40x/32x/40x DVD+RW/DVD-RW/DVD-RAM)
Optical Drive PQD 7SXYNC92VK SCSI CdRom Device
SMART Hard Disks Status OK

Now with that we see I barely meet the minimum requirements.
* Dual Core CPU (Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, Intel Core 2.0 GHz, AMD Athlon 3200+ or faster) 600+ more then needed!
* 1 GB RAM Twice as Much!
* GPU (Nvidia Geforce 7800 / ATI Radeon 1800 or faster) with Shader Model 3 and 256 MB VRAM Wow! one step above!
* Windows XP CHECK
* DVD (Dual Layer compatible), 10 GB free HDD space CHECK

I'm REALLY riding the edge here so I get some issues. Now... I'm lazy so I'm not gonna show you what it looked like when I first entered the game ,but let me tell you the default guess Arma2 made was HORRIBLE.

So let's look at what I have it set at now. This is playing on our map with grass (I'll get on that a little later).

It's playable.. barely... you can see the FPS, but quite seriously playable 99% of the time. What do I have it set at? You won't believe it.

With lots of testing atleast on my computer this has the best FPS. Indeed as proven in many game lowering it too low actually makes the game run WORSE as it tries to create all those jagged edges or something...

Now the biggest fix for your frame rate issue though I have no picture proof yet. NO GRASS. This is something that needs to be done server side unless for some reason the server allow user-side mods. None the less this will probably increase your FPS by atleast 10! If you add that to my previous FPS you see I get 30, which is just above standard Movie Frame rate! Quite normal for the eye and enjoyable even...

So there you are, I hope this sparks some more talk amongst everyone. Please try to be scientific though guys. I dont want to hear too many "I thinks". Hope I've been of some help.

Hey guys,

Went on the server a bit and noticed a new map (YAY!). I took a look around and had a go on the rifle range and was going to try out the airfield (had to leave for cadets) excersises and I thought that it was pretty cool.

One thing that is probaly already known is that on the range there is no way to stop the range setting up when you have finished. As soon as you step into the box with a weapon it starts. Also, the targets don't seem to register if you shoot them with more than one bullet (yes, I was hitting them. I made sure of that.).

Like I said I'm sure that you are already aware of this so I'm posting this on the slim off-chance that you're not and to make a thread for the UACTF.

Hope no one minds!

EDIT: Just gone on it again and I did the MOUNT. There is one target in a bush that is impossible to shoot. And can I suggest that as well as the time showing up at the end there is also a reccord of how many targets you hit out of the total?
